Like already getting banned by US Government wasn’t enough trouble for the Chinese telecommunication Giant Huawei that recently Google also have done the same by terminating all of its android and hardware support for Huawei devices. After this decision google turns out to be the worst nightmare for Huawei because that means existing Huawei devices will not get any updates in future and also Huawei’s upcoming flagship smart phones will be missing even main apps like Play store and Gmail.
Which will ultimately results in shaking the pillars of Huawei’s business outside their country China. However at least Chinese market is the safe ground for Huawei. Here its business will not be that much affected. Sources claims that in Huawei’s Headquarters discussions are still going on that which services they are going to lose.
Update: Huawei’s Android Support Extended for 90 Days.
Google Official Statement about Huawei
On 19 May 2019 Google tweeted:
For Huawei users' questions regarding our steps to comply w/ the recent US government actions: We assure you while we are complying with all US gov't requirements, services like Google Play & security from Google Play Protect will keep functioning on your existing Huawei device.
— Android (@Android) May 20, 2019
By reading this statement it seems like Google had made it very clear that Play store and some of security updates will be active because they don’t directly involves Huawei but they are going to take down OS updates, technical support and collaborated services of android with Huawei. Which means serious trouble for Huawei in Smartphones market.
Huawei’s response to Google
“Huawei has made substantial contributions to the development and growth of Android around the world. As one of Android’s key global partners, we have worked closely with their open-source platform to develop an ecosystem that has benefited both users and the industry. Huawei will continue to provide security updates and after-sales services to all existing Huawei and Honor smartphone and tablet products, covering those that have been sold and that are still in stock globally. We will continue to build a safe and sustainable software ecosystem, in order to provide the best experience for all users globally.”
Till US Government is not lifting the ban, Huawei does have another resource which is to go for third Party apps and services so there smartphones and other devices remains fully functional. But in that case there is no assurance that users will be in the favor of this transformation.
Future of Huawei?
There are also some unconfirmed rumors that Huawei is going to launch an operating system named as ‘Hongmeng’. Which will be there first operating system. But officially Huawei have not confirmed this news yet. Also there are no reliable resources which can verify that the pictures and videos of the ‘Hongmeng’ interface hovering on the internet are real or fake, they could be fan made. But the point is that if these rumors are true then this new strategy of Huawei seems like a smart move but risky at the same time.
Because on one hand in these troubled times for Huawei, a new OS seems like necessity for them if they want to survive. But on the other hand it will be an extremely difficult task for Huawei to attract users to a completely new Operating System, unless the Operating System itself is extremely user friendly and can compete in performance with its rivals. We have seen in the past that Huawei have stun the word with its ideas and technologies. But this time it’s a completely changed scenario.
